Midsumma Festival is Australia’s premier queer arts and cultural festival, bringing together a diverse mix of LGBTQIA+ artists, performers, communities and audiences.
Every January, Midsumma Festival expands over 22-days of summer with an explosion of queer events that center around hidden and mainstream queer culture, locally and internationally. The Midsumma program shares with you the lived experiences of those voices at the margins, the expression of queer history, and the celebration of new ideas that come to life through world-class art and performance.
The festival program is made up of diverse art forms and genres, including visual arts, live music, theatre, spoken word, cabaret, film, parties, sport, social events, and public forums. Featuring over 194 events in 2020, with involvement by over 5000 culture-makers in over 100 different venues across Melbourne and wider Victoria – to anticipated audiences of over 284,000.
These roles contributed to the Midsumma Festival across multiple periods, supporting both operational delivery and strategic development.
From 2008 to 2012, this role focused on managing online ticketing systems, festival administration, and volunteer coordination.
From 2019 to 2021, the focus expanded to include budget submissions to the Victorian State Government, production support, and the creation of COVID-safe policies and procedures.
Administration
- Managed correspondence, phone queries, and general office operations
- Coordinated meeting agendas, minutes, and banking processes
- Oversaw VOIP phone systems and website content updates
- Liaised with the Board of Management on administrative matters
Project Coordination
- Led proposal development and community consultation for Melbourne Pride 2021 (now Victoria’s Pride), a Victorian Government event commemorating the 40th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Victoria
Ticketing
- Built and managed events within SABO (Seat Advisor Box Office)
- Liaised with outlets, producers, and stakeholders regarding ticketing operations
- Maintained online ticketing systems and complimentary ticket lists
- Trained box office staff and managed sales, refunds, and reconciliations post-festival
Volunteer Coordination
- Developed volunteer position descriptions, rosters, and briefing materials
- Delivered volunteer briefings and maintained resource platforms
- Coordinated volunteer scheduling and department communication
- Supervised volunteers during rostered shifts to ensure smooth operations

Played a vital role in both the operational delivery and strategic evolution of the Midsumma Festival — strengthening its systems, expanding its community reach, and supporting its recognition as one of Australia’s leading LGBTQIA+ arts and cultural events.
