Who we are
This website (tomlambert.com.au) is operated by Tom Lambert, a sole operator based on Boon Wurrung Country in Naarm/Melbourne, Australia. References to ‘I,’ ‘me,’ or ‘my’ in this policy refer to Tom Lambert.
This policy explains how I collect, use and protect any personal information you provide through this website. It is written in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
What information I collect
I only collect personal information that you choose to provide, and a small amount of technical data that is collected automatically by the website.
Information you provide:
- Contact form submissions: your name, email address, subject line and message content. This is sent to my inbox so I can reply.
Information collected automatically:
- Server logs: IP address, browser type, pages visited and timestamps, retained by my hosting provider for security and diagnostic purposes.
- Cookies: small text files used to remember your cookie consent preference and to support basic website functionality. See the ‘Cookies’ section below.
Why I collect it
Your personal information is used only for the purpose for which you provided it:
- Contact form data is used to respond to your enquiry.
- Server log data is used to keep the site secure and diagnose technical issues.
- Cookie data is used to remember your consent preference.
I do not use your information for marketing, do not sell your information, and do not share it with anyone for any purpose other than the technical operation of the site.
Cookies
This website uses a small number of cookies. When you first visit the site, you will be asked to accept or decline non-essential cookies. Your choice is stored in a cookie so you are not asked again on every page.
If you decline, only essential cookies (which are necessary for the site to function) will be used. You can clear cookies at any time through your browser settings.
Contact forms
The contact form on this site is powered by Contact Form 7. When you submit the form, the information you enter is sent to my inbox via my email provider. The form does not store submissions in the website’s database.
Analytics
This site does not currently run third-party analytics. If that changes, this policy will be updated and you will be asked to consent to analytics cookies before any tracking occurs.
Embedded content from other websites
Some pages on this site may include embedded content from other websites (for example, links to LinkedIn or Instagram, images hosted by third parties, or video embeds). Embedded content from other websites behaves as if you had visited the other website directly — those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to those services.
Who I share data with
Your information is shared only with the small number of service providers required to operate this website:
- ITMD — hosts the website and stores server logs.
- My email provider — receives contact form submissions in my inbox.
None of these providers are authorised to use your information for any purpose other than providing the service to me. I do not share your information with marketers, advertisers, or anyone else.
How long data is kept
Contact form emails are kept in my inbox for as long as is reasonably useful to maintain the conversation, then archived or deleted. Server logs are retained by my hosting provider in line with their standard retention policy (typically 30–90 days).
How data is protected
This website is served over HTTPS, which encrypts data in transit between your browser and the server. Access to the site’s administration area is password-protected and limited to me. My email and hosting accounts use strong, unique passwords and two-factor authentication.
Your rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Request access to the personal information I hold about you.
- Request correction of any inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your information, subject to any legal retention obligations.
- Make a complaint about how your information has been handled.
To exercise any of these rights, contact me via the contact form. I will respond within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with my response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
Data breach response
In the unlikely event of a data breach that is likely to result in serious harm, I will notify affected individuals and the OAIC in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under the Privacy Act.
Changes to this policy
I may update this policy from time to time. The ‘Last updated’ date at the top of this page shows when it was last revised. Material changes will be flagged on the homepage.
