The Role
Joined the ensemble of Fiddler on the Roof for the Australia and New Zealand tour, performing alongside stage and screen icon Topol in his celebrated role as Tevye. The tour played four Australian capital cities and two New Zealand venues across three years.
This was my first professional engagement after graduating from the Victorian College of the Arts, and the production became the operational education that shaped my career. Touring eight shows a week through five cities exposed me to every department of a large-scale touring musical — wardrobe, stage management, technical, company management, front of house — and made it clear that the work happening around the performance interested me as much as the work onstage. When the tour downsized for one leg and my ensemble role was cut, I joined the producer’s office to assist with administration. That move from cast to crew became the pivot point for everything since.
The Work
- Performed eight shows a week as a member of the ensemble
- Maintained vocal, dance and acting consistency across an extended touring schedule
- Adapted choreography and staging to multiple venue configurations
- Assisted the producer’s office with day-to-day administrative tasks after the ensemble role was cut
The Outcome
The tour gave me my first inside view of how a touring musical actually operates — the systems, the people, the friction points. The shift from performer to administrator, even briefly, opened the door to arts management as a career and shaped the operational thinking I bring to productions today

About This Project
Fiddler on the Roof is a musical with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, book by Joseph Stein and choreography by Jerome Robbins.
The story centres on Tevye in Tsarist Russia, 1905, the father of five daughters, and his attempts to maintain his family and Jewish religious traditions while outside influences encroach upon their lives. He must cope both with the strong-willed actions of his three older daughters—each one’s choice of husband moves further away from the customs of his faith—and with the edict of the Tsar that evicts the Jews from their village.
